2017 Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva – Bottle Notes

The village of Volpaia sits on a hilltop just north of the town of Radda in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. One of the highest-elevation winery in the Chianti area, Castello di Volpaia owns 46 hectares of vineyards, which are situated at 450 to 600 meters on the southern hillsides leading up to the village.

Garnet in color. 14% ABV. Fantastic nose of dried red fruits, asphalt and flowers. Medium body with strong acidity. Tremendous structure and power. Cherries, blood, earth and roasted herbs on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with pronounced tannins. A worth follow up to the acclaimed ’15 and ’16 vintages. Give this a little time. Best over the next 4-6 years.

My rating: 92 points.

Look for the 2017 at a little over $30 a bottle.
