Bottle Notes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2007 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Bottle Notes

Domaine de Ferrand was founded in 1960 by Charles Bravay. Philippe Bravay launched bottling directly at the winery when he took over the domaine from his father in 1995. Since 1997, a large part of the wine produced has been sold under the brand name of Domaine de Ferrand.

The wine is primarily composed of Grenache with small amounts of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault.

Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, licorice and garrigue. Medium body with ample acidity. Notable balance. Exceptionally rich and concentrated. Kirsch liqueur, raspberry compote, strawberry and roasted herbs on the palate. The finish on the wine is exquisite. This bottle is light years ahead of the same bottle five years ago. I don’t really recall many bottles that improved so markedly with time in the cellar. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 94 points.

Domaine Ferrand is high quality and fairly priced. Look for the exceptional 2016 for about $60.
