2017 Syncline Winery Cinsault Mckinley Springs Vineyard

Syncline Winery was founded in 1999 by James and Poppie Mantone. Syncline’s first vintage in 1999, consisted of 76 cases of Celilo Vineyards Pinot Noir from vines planted in 1973. The next year, production was increased to include Columbia Valley Syrah and Grenache. At the same time they began working with vineyards to plant Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise and Carignan. They have kept production under 6,000 cases annually to ensure intimacy with each barrel and every vine.

McKinley Springs Vineyard lies in the heart of the highly acclaimed Horse Heaven Hills AVA in southeastern Washington

Light red in color. 13.2% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, anise and tar. Medium body with exceptional acidity. Light and fresh with bright fruit in spades. Bing cherry, strawberry, earth, gravel and pepper on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Unique and delicious. I really enjoyed this served at cellar temperature. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 90 points.

Syncline Winery is located along the Columbia River Gorge in Lyle, Washington. We usually visit Syncline in conjunction with a trip to Hood River, Oregon. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.
