2012 Hartford Family Winery Zinfandel Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1994 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford’s appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. Jeff Stewart is the Hartford Family Winemaker.

The 98-year old Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard is located on about seven acres along a slight rise off Wood Road in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County. It is dry-farmed and has been hand-tended by the Fanucchi family for the last 29 years.

Bright crimson in color. 14.6% ABV. Brilliant nose of red fruits, anise, cocoa and pepper. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Elegant, well balanced, Claret style Zinfandel. Crushed raspberries, cherries, blood orange and spice on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Delicious Zinfandel from a historic vineyard. Best over the next year or so.

My rating: 92 points.

The ’17 Old Vine Zinfandel should be available at retail very soon. Can’t wait to get my hands on a few bottles. Happy hunting!
