2016 Efeste Syrah Jolie Bouche – Bottle Notes

Efeste, pronounced like the letters “F-S-T” strung together, was named after the last names of founders Helen & Dan Ferrelli, Patrick Smith, and Kevin & Angela Taylor. Efeste is located in the Warehouse District of Woodinville, Washington. Mark Fiore, who honed his skills at Charles Smith, is the winemaker at Efeste.

Jolie Bouche is 100% Syrah from the acclaimed Boushey Vineyard. Boushey Vineyards, owned by Richard and Luanne Boushey, are located in the Yakima Valley five miles north of the town of Grandview on the southern slopes of the Rattlesnake Mountains. The vineyards are planted on several sites within a two-mile radius; generally south-facing slopes varying from 700 to 1200 ft. elevation. The first blocks of grapes were planted in 1980.

Dark purple in color. 14.5% ABV. Savory nose of black fruits, grilled meats, olive brine and pepper. Full bodied with strong acidity. Young and powerful. Blackberries, cassis liqueur and pepper on the palate. Excellent length on the finish with copious mouth drying tannins. Just a baby that begs for time in the cellar. Best over the next 5-7 years.

My rating: 91 points.

Efeste has one of the best white wine programs in the state of Washington and the red wines are also exceptional. The wines are readily available at retail, via the wine club and at the winery.
