2016 Kreck Old Vine Zinfandel Del Barba Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Kreck Wines was founded in 2016 by Jeremy and Mindy Kreck. Jeremy Kreck is the winemaker and grew up farming grapes on his family’s Alexander Valley ranch. Mindy is a graphic designer and has crafted the Kreck package in homage to the heritage and legacy of the vineyards in which they source fruit. The focus at Kreck is old vine Zinfandel from historic vineyards.

The 40-acre Del Barba Vineyard in Oakley, east of San Francisco Bay, is almost completely surrounded by residential neighborhoods. The vineyard has been farmed by the Del Barba family for four generations and the Zinfandel vines date back 130 years.

Dark red in color. 15.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red and black fruits, baking spices and white pepper. Medium to full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Rich, plush and silky. Raspberry, black cherry, strawberry and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and sweet. Tremendous Zinfandel from an unheralded vineyard. That should change. Best over the next 4-6 years.

My rating: 93 points.

You can join the Kreck mailing list here. I am looking forward to following the winery in the years to come.
