2014 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Tegan Passalacqua, of Sandlands and Turley fame, owns and farms Kirschenmann vineyard. The ungrafted vines were planted in 1915 in the silica-rich sandy soils of the east side of the Mokelumne River AVA in Lodi.

Red in color. 14.6% ABV. Fragrant nose of red fruits, flowers and earth. Medium body with ample acidity. Elegant, light and fresh. Claret style Zinfandel. Strawberries, cranberries, blood orange and black tea on the palate. Medium length on the finish. A unique expression of Zinfandel that was delightful on a warm Summer night in Seattle. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 91 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
