2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Monte Rosso was planted in the 1880’s by Emanuel Goldstein and the original winery is still on the property. Located off of Highway 12 in Sonoma the grapes are being used by Carlisle, Bedrock, Louis Martini and Robert Biale.

Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Juicy nose of black fruits, pepper, earthy loam and flowers. Medium to full bodied with wicked acidity. Intense and packed with flavors not often associated with Zinfandel. Blackberries, huckleberries, smoke, game and pepper on the palate. The finish is explosive. Unique Zinfandel that needs an hour or so in the decanter right now. Drink over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
