2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Saitone Ranch – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Saitone Ranch is the oldest of the old-vine vineyards remaining in the Piner-Olivet area. Still owned by the Saitone family today, it is thought that the vines were in the ground and growing as early as 1895. Several blocks of Carignane, Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet, and Chasselas Doré comprise the bulk of the remaining 17 acres. It is worth noting that perhaps my favorite old vine vineyard, Papera Ranch, is just down the street.

Purple in color. 15% ABV. Great big nose of black and blue fruits, flowers and a hint of citrus. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Brambly blackberry, blueberry liqueur, slate and orange peel on the palate. The wine lingers on the finish. Another winner from Bedrock in the 2011 vintage. Drink over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The mailing at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
