2005 Turley Zinfandel Moore “Earthquake” Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley and specializes in small lots of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from some of California’s most historic and treasured vineyards.

Moore “Earthquake” Vineyard was one of the original single vineyard wines Turley produced staring in 1993. Located in Napa Valley the vineyard was a staple up through the 2008 vintage.

Crimson in color. Just a touch cloudy. 15.2% ABV. Brambly red fruits, anise and baking spices on the nose. Medium body with light acidity. Well balanced with only the faintest hint of heat. Raspberry compote, blackberries, black pepper and tar on the palate. Drying tannins. The finish is long and sweet. Drink over the next year.

My rating: 91 points.

Turley wines are available via the mailing list and periodically at retail.

With all due respect to Carlisle and Bedrock, Turley is unequivocally the best Zinfandel producer in California. Exceptional vineyards and no detail spared in the winemaking process. The wines are simply better than ever.

Turley has tasting rooms in both Amador and Paso Robles. If you are not on the mailing list, this is an easy way to secure bottles. Both are not to be missed if you are in the area.

  1. I agree, Turley is simply one of the best. They have an elegance and power to them that makes them unique. I have been on the list for 4 years and always visit when I am in Paso.

    A must visit!
