Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from several of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels Morgan is clearly passionate about.
Griffin’s Lair Vineyard is located on a wind-swept hill in the Petaluma Gap, in the southernmost part of the Sonoma Coast AVA. The ranch is just north of San Pablo Bay in the Lakeville area, 25 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and 10 miles south of the historic town of Petaluma. The vineyard is owned and managed by Joan and Jim Griffin, whose focus is premium Pinot Noir and Syrah.
Purple in color. 14% ABV. Dark fruits, smoked meats, flowers and spice aromas explode from the glass. Full bodied with exceptional acidity. The palate is awash in blueberries, pepper, lavender, sage, smoke and game. Savory wine with supple tannins. Drink over the next 1-2 years.
My rating: 93 points.
The current vintage is $36 at the winery.
