Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2012 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.

Kanzler Vineyard is located in western Sonoma County, just south of Bodega Highway on Sander’s Road and was planted in 1996.

Ruby red in color. 14.6% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, cherry cola, cloves and forest floor. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Light, lithe and exceptionally elegant. Cherry, cranberry, strawberry and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Absolutely delicious, classy Pinot Noir. Best over the next several years.

My rating: 95 points.

I suspect the 2020 version will be released to mailing list members early next year although I am not sure how the Vineyard fared in the fires of 2020.

I blogged about Kosta Browne recently in Exciting Changes at Kosta Browne and Too Much Being Made of a Change in Style at Kosta Browne.
