2015 Beekeeper Cellars Zinfandel Montecillo Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Beekeeper Cellars was founded in 2008 by Ian Blackburn and Clay Mauritson. The focus at Beekeeper is solely on single vineyard Zins.

Planted in the 1960s, Montecillo Vineyards sits at 1725’ elevation on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains above the town of Kenwood, just 680 yards from the Napa county line.

Purple in color. 14% ABV. 95% Zinfandel and 5% Petite Sirah. Powerful nose of black fruits, licorice, citrus and pepper. Full bodied with perfect acidity. Well balanced. Threads the needle between Claret style and modern style Zinfandel. Blackberry, black raspberry, blood orange and pepper on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Very appealing Zinfandel and I can certainly see why this is a favorite of many. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 93 points.

Beekeeper Zins are sold exclusively through their mailing list.
