Bottle Notes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2009 La Bastide Saint-Dominique Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Bottle Notes

Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique was founded in 1976. Four years later, in 1980, Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique produced, bottled and sold their first wine. Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique is owned by the Bonnet family who are also well-known negociants in the Rhone Valley. La Bastide Saint Dominique is best know for their Secrets de Pignan which is produced from 95% old vine Grenache and 5% Mourvedre. The vines for this wine are close to 100 years of age.

Crimson in color. 15% ABV. Savory nose of red fruits, leather, olives and roasted herbs. Medium to full bodied with strong acidity. Big and bold with a core of sweet fruits. Black cherry, kirsch liqueur, raspberries and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. My first chance to try this wine and there is much to like. Give this another 2-4 years in the cellar.

My rating: 92 points.

Current vintages are attractively priced at under $50 and should be readily available.
