2004 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale – Bottle Notes

The family run estate of Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier dates back to 1863. This was initially a 4-hectare Chambolle domaine but since Frédéric took back the family’s old Nuits St-Georges Monopole, Clos de la Maréchale, from Faiveley in 2004, the Domaine has increased to 13 hectares. Their are 7 wines currently being produced at Mugnier with the Bonnes Mares and Musigny being some of the most coveted wines in all of Burgundy.

Light red in color. 13% ABV. Pristine nose of red fruits, damp forest floor and flowers. Medium body with strong acidity. No noticeable green flavors often associated with the ’04 vintage. Strawberry, cherry, rhubarb, spice and soil on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Elegant, regal Burgundy that is showing well at fifteen years of age. I have 2 bottles left that I will track over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 92 points.

This wine (or all the Mugnier wines) for that matter, have become rather expensive in recent years. The most recent versions of Clos de la
Maréchale will set you back more than $100 per bottle.
