2015 Steele Zinfandel Pacini Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Jed Steele has been making wine in California for almost 50 years and 2017 is the 25th anniversary of Steele Wines in Lake County. Jed started in the cellar in 1968 at Stony Hill in the Napa Valley. After he earned his enology degree at UC Davis he ended up at Edmeades in the Anderson Valley, then started Kendall-Jackson in Lake County.

Pacini Vineyard is situated in Mendocino County in the hills above Talmage. Planted in 1940 the vineyard is comprised of 25 acres of Zinfandel, 2 acres of Petite Sirah and 1 acre of Carignane.

Violet in color. 14.5% ABV. Savory nose of red fruits, baking spices and white pepper. Medium body with medium acidity. Rich and plush on the palate. Flavors of bing cherry, salmonberry, strawberry and pepper. The finish is long and seamless. Impressive Mendocino Zinfandel and a bargain at about $17. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 91 points.

I don’t run across the Steele wines often but they are always well made and a fairly priced. Let me know if you are a fan.
