2011 Efeste Chardonnay Lola – Bottle Notes

2011 Efeste Lola Chardonnay

Efeste, pronounced like the letters “F-S-T” strung together, was named after the last names of founders Helen & Dan Ferrelli, Patrick Smith, and Kevin & Angela Taylor. Efeste is located in the Warehouse District of Woodinville, Washington. Peter Devison took over full-time winemaking duties when Brennon Leighton left to work with Charles Smith in 2012.

The fruit for Lola is sourced from Evergreen Vineyard, situated in the Ancient Lakes AVA. Owned and farmed by the Milbrandt family, it is a cooler site with unique soils. Evergreen has come to be known for crisp, mineral-laden white wines.

Amber in color and throwing just a touch of sediment. 13.4% ABV. The nose is all about slate, flowers and key lime. Pineapple, butterscotch and lemon on the palate. Clearly new world with a dose of butter and oak. What sets this wine apart from many Washington Chardonnays is the great acidity. Drink over the next year or so. $28 at the winery.

My rating: 90 points.

Efeste has one of the best white wine programs in the state of Washington, and the red wines are also exceptional. The wines are readily available at retail, via the wine club and at the winery.
