Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery, located in St. Helena, made their first Cabernet Sauvignon with the 1982 vintage and is one of the true iconic Cabernet producers in Napa Valley. They also make an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, a second Cabernet named Lydenhurst and a Rhone blend known as Field Book.
Ruby red in color with some bricking on the edge of the glass. Gorgeous nose of black currants, graham cracker and baking spice. Red fruits, cassis, clove, flowers and lavender on the palate. Liquid velvet. Great texture and mouthfeel with super silky tannins. The finish completes this wine. Long and exquisite.
My rating: 94 points.
The 2009 vintage of Spottswoode is available via the winery or in select wines stores. Though expensive at $145 per bottle, I contend Spottswoode has earned the right to charge a premium price.
