2006 Rochioli Estate Chardonnay- Bottle Notes

2006 Rochioli Chardonnay

Rochioli Vineyards is one of the true pioneers in Russian River Valley, with a winemaking history dating back to the the late 1950s. Although best known for their world class Pinot Noir, Rochioli also produces remarkable Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Rochioli Chardonnay program seems to fly under the radar given the attention paid to their Pinot Noirs. The winery does an Estate Chardonnay, which would be the entry level wine, and then a number of single vineyard wines including Rachael’s, Sweetwater, River Block and South River. The Estate Chardonnay is delicious on release and holds well for 4-6 years. I like the single vineyard wines at 5-7 years.

The 2006 Estate Chardonnay is lightly straw colored. Everything I love about California Chardonnay is present in this wine: tropical fruits, pears, green apple, vanilla and just a tiny little bit of butter. Fresh and lively with a touch of acidity and a long, creamy finish. This wine is the total package.

No time like the present to look into the Rochioli mailing list. I sometimes see the Estate wines at retail, too.
